Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Handbeam's free digital business card, sharing by QR code or NFC, and how your data is handled. Can't find what you need here? Email contact@handbeam.com.

Is Handbeam really free?

Yes. No paywalls, no watermark, and up to 3 cards per account. If you'd like to help keep it running, there's an optional tip jar, but nothing on Handbeam is ever gated behind payment.

How many cards can I have?

Up to 3 per account. That's usually enough for a personal card plus a separate work or company card, each with its own username, links, and design.

How do people get my details?

However suits the moment: they scan your QR code, tap their phone against an NFC tag you've set up, or you just share your card's link directly. All three point to the same live card.

What's the difference between the QR code and NFC?

The QR code is a scannable image, anyone opens their camera and scans it, no extra hardware needed. NFC is a physical tag or sticker you write your link to once; people tap their phone against it, no camera or scanning required.

Do I need to install an app?

No, Handbeam works entirely in the browser. You can optionally add it to your home screen for an app-like icon and faster access.

Does my card work without signal or wifi?

Your own card, once you've opened it while online, keeps working offline after that, useful at an event with bad wifi. A stranger scanning your QR code for the very first time still needs a connection at that moment, since there's no way to deliver a page that's never been loaded before.

Can I hide my phone number or email from my card?

Yes. Every field, including phone, email, and bio, has its own visibility toggle in your card editor, so you control exactly what's shown publicly.

Can I change my username later?

Yes, from your card editor. Keep in mind any QR code you've printed or NFC tag you've written still points to the old link, so you'll need to reprint or rewrite it after changing your username.

Who can see my card?

Only published cards are publicly visible. A card stays private until you publish it, and you can unpublish it again at any time.

What happens if I delete a card or my account?

Deleting a card removes its public page, QR code, and photos for good. If it's your only card, deleting it deletes your whole account, including your login. See our Privacy Policy for exactly how long any remaining data is retained.

Do you sell my data?

No. Full detail on what we collect, why, and your rights over it is in our Privacy Policy.
